Blog posts and status updates should not always require titles. It makes sense that a person’s writings would be a spectrum of post types, with tweet-style one-liners or shared links on one end, and long-form, titled articles on the other. I don’t think that these should be siloed into different tools based on character count or formatting limits. I’ve often seen Dave Winer argue a similar point.
When I put together my blog-publishing Perl script, I required a title per post. I’m now amending that and testing it with this title-less post. This requires handling RSS generation and index page generation correctly. Hopefully this will help me post more frequently and less formally; let’s see.
